The Taranaki Naturist Club is hosting a national "camp-out by the sea" event, which has attracted about 120 naturists from around the country and overseas. They started arriving at the club's 2ha property, Waiongana Park, yesterday and were soon soaking up the sun, wearing nothing more than sunhats, sunglasses and jandals.
With about 60 members, the Taranaki club is one of the smallest in New Zealand, and this is the first time it has held the biennial event, which runs until January 3.
"It's a huge honour to be hosting this," club public relations officer Beth Satherley said. "It's very exciting."
She said the event had taken 12 months to plan, with a new shower block and well being installed as part of the preparations.
