Allyn Hall soaked up the searing sun yesterday afternoon as he strolled through the Sandy Terraces campground wearing little more than a fishing hat and a smile.

"Your underwear are probably soaking wet," said Hall, 61, to a visitor.

Wet underwear is just one of many reasons why Hall prefers the nudist lifestyle of Sandy Terraces, the Marstons Mills campground where skin is in.

Since the early 1950s, folks have been coming to this secluded and woodsy 10-acre private campground shedding both their inhibitions and their clothing - but keeping mostly quiet about it. Given the way much of society thought about such activity, campers mostly had to find out about the site through nudist clubs or word of mouth.

But Hall thinks it's time the club - you'll excuse the pun - bared more of itself to the public. So on Aug. 18, Sandy Terraces will host a free, by-reservation open house to anyone who might be interested in going barefoot all over.
